Following their successful three day Open House event in early June, 600 UK held an inaugural Education Open Day on Wednesday 15 July. 600 UK invited lecturers from colleges, universities and training organisations from around the UK to see the modernised Heckmondwike, West Yorkshire manufacturing facility and view the new products recently introduced by Colchester and Harrison lathes, Pratt Burnerd chucks and Clausing machine tools.
Chief among these was a demonstration and feedback session on the new Harrison EziTurn 330 lathe, which is aimed at the education market and is designed to bridge the gap between conventional and CNC lathes. The EziTurn was extremely well received by lecturers, who saw real potential in a machine which makes it easy for students and apprentices to take the next step up from a Harrison M300 or a Colchester Student centre lathe in their training and development plans.
Furthermore, there was great interest in the new range of Clausing variable speed drilling machines and manual surface grinders that were on display.
Keith Large, engineering technician at Loughborough College commented: “600 UK’s Education day was a really worthwhile visit and I enjoyed seeing both the production side and the Colchester Student and Harrison EziTurn lathes that were demonstrated specifically for education, as well as meeting 600 UK’s friendly and knowledgeable colleagues”.
A further 600 UK Education Open Day is planned for Wednesday 22 July 2015.
“As one of the biggest advocates of engineering education, we are arranging Education Open Days for schools, colleges, universities and training centres to learn more about our wide range of class leading education products and services which are proving to be a success for both lecturer and student alike.” said Howard Bamforth, 600 UK sales director.
“600 UK has been accommodating tours for engineering students as part of the curriculum for years, but this was our first formal education specific open event, which was very encouraging. Our next 600 UK Education Open Day is planned for Wednesday 22 July, which promises to be just as successful. If you would like to attend, please feel free to contact Joanne Zalesinski, our educational sales representative, to book your place on 01924 415000.”
